This workshop is for parents, carers and professionals

A workshop to help parents and professionals recognise and support their child's current level of communication. The workshop will guide you in how to support communication and interaction skills in different settings. This can be at home or in an education environment.

We encourage professionals to attend the same workshop as the parents of the child. This is not essential but can be helpful.

Aim of this workshop

  • To develop understanding of the foundations for communication at all ages.
  • To support adults in recognising a child’s current level of communication.
  • To explore practical strategies for modelling and supporting communication development.
  • To promote consistent, responsive communication approaches across settings.

Entry criteria

The workshop is for parents/carers or any adults supporting children and young people who: 

  • are non-speaking, or are developing intentional communication
  • rely on adults to interpret their communication
  • may or may not respond consistently to their immediate environment

Workshop dates

The booking window will close 2 working days before the date of the training.

Please note, if you do not attend the workshop, you may be charged a penalty fee.

Foundations for communication workshop terms and conditions

This workshop is free at the point of delivery. 

If you are unable to attend the workshop, please notify us as soon as possible. Notify us at ccs.beds.childrens.slt.training@nhs.net 

Repeated non-attendance will result in restricted access to future workshops. 

Bookings for all workshops will close 2 working days before the date of the training. It is at the training administrator’s discretion if late bookings are processed.

If you need to swap the person attending the workshop, please email ccs.beds.childrens.slt.training@nhs.net with the name and email address of their replacement as soon as possible. We can then send the relevant information and resources to the new attendee.

The training will be delivered over Microsoft Teams. Please ensure you have access to a device with a camera and microphone as you will require these to participate in the workshop. You will receive a Microsoft Teams link and any necessary resources via email at least 2 working days before the workshop.

The Microsoft Teams link is intended for use only by the person it is sent to. Do not share this link with anyone else. Participants who are not on the attendance list will be removed.

In the unlikely event that a workshop is cancelled, we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible and you will be offered a place on an alternative date.

This workshop is free at the point of delivery. 

If you do not attend the workshop, there will be a £25 penalty per participant.

Cancellations made before the start of the workshop will not be charged. Please notify us at ccs.beds.childrens.slt.training@nhs.net

Developing language
