This workshop is for professionals only
This is a 11 week virtual training course for professionals working within mainstream schools in Luton. It will provide you with the tools and methods to enhance children and young people's learning in the classroom. It promotes quality first teaching. The training will include teaching methods, practical activities, videos and group discussions.
You will be able to create a communication champion team for your school. The communication champion team needs to be at least 3 members of staff. If your school has less than 100 pupils, you may identify up to 2 communication champions. One must be a special educational needs coordinator (SENDCo) or senior leader.
Aim of this workshop
- Improve your ability to identify and help children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
- Improve your understanding of the impact of speech, language and communication difficulties on children and young people
- Understand the development of English as an additional language (EAL) or English as a second language (ESOL) and how to support them in the classroom
- Understand and implement universal and targeted strategies for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
- Feel confident referring children for additional support
Entry criteria
We recommend this course for teachers, teaching assistants and special educational needs coordinators (SENDCo's). It is open for all professionals working in mainstream education.
You will:
- be a professional working in mainstream education in Luton
- have an interest in children's speech, language and communication needs
- have access to a device with a camera and microphone (computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone)
Workshop dates
Please note: A cancellation fee of £161 will be charged for non-attendance or cancellations made with less than 14 days notice of the source start date. No fee will be charged if notice is given more than 14 days prior to the start date.
Schools have the option to nominate a substitute learner up to 5 working days before the first session without penalty.
You will need to identify your communication champion team before booking onto the training. As part of the booking process, you will need to include the roles and email addresses of your communication champion team.
