For children - Child protection medical assessment
You have done nothing wrong.
Many children come to these centres. You are not alone.
If you told a teacher or another adult that you were worried, you did the right thing. You were very brave to talk to an adult, it takes a lot of courage.
The doctor is here to listen to you and to take care of you. If you have any worries, talk to them about it. They want to help.
At your appointment, there are going to be doctors that just work with children. These are called community paediatricians. You will be seeing one of these doctors because someone is worried about you.
A chaperone is available if you need at the appointment. A chaperone is a person who will look after you during your appointment.
What will happen
It can be upsetting when you don't know what's happening or why. When you arrive, there will be 3 steps:
Step 1
You will arrive at the waiting room with the person who has brought you and the social worker.
Step 2
The doctor is going to ask you some questions. These questions are going to be about your family, friends and school. They will also measure your height and weight.
If you have any worries at all, talk to the doctor about them.
The doctor will listen to you and try to help.
Step 3
When you are ready, the doctor is going to check that you are healthy by giving you a check-up. This is called an examination (don't worry, there are no tests).
Photographs
The doctor might feel it's important to take some photographs. You will always be asked if this is okay. If you are happy to have your photograph taken, the photos are going to be kept in a really safe place.
