Language provision
- SEND
- Speech, language and communication

Language provisions are based within selected primary schools. These primary schools have staff trained in speech, language and communication needs. A speech therapist will regularly visit them at school. The language provisions are available for children between reception and Year 6.
There are no language provisions beyond year 6 in Bedfordshire and Luton. Language provisions are currently only available in Central Bedfordshire.
Children who are placed in a language provision will attend classes with other children. At the school, a teaching assistant will help your child's speech and language day-to-day. Your child will also regularly see a speech and language therapist. The school will have resources and equipment to help your child with their speech and language needs.
There are 2 language provisions in Central Bedfordshire. Places are limited at 8 children per school.
To be considered for a language provision the child must have an education, health and care plan (EHCP). The primary area of need must be a speech and language difficulty or disorder.
Language provisions are not suitable for children whose primary area of need is:
- autism spectrum disorder
- behavioural issues
- hearing impairment
- learning difficulties or cognitive impairment
- social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs such as anxiety
Who can help
If you think a language provision will be helpful for your child, speak to your child’s speech and language therapist.
If this progresses to an application, you will be able to select your preferred location.
